Landscape format
Above furniture, landscape format is almost always right, because it picks up the line of the furniture.
A sofa is wide and low. A painting above it that follows the same proportion looks like it belongs. An upright above a sofa looks like an intruder, even when the size is right.
Above furniture
Picture width about two thirds of the furniture width.
With a sideboard of 180 cm that comes to around 120 cm.
Above the reception desk
Wider than the desk does not work, the same width does.
A landscape format that stays narrower than the desk loses.
Landscape in landscape format
Almost all the abstract landscapes are horizontal.
A landscape needs width, so the format follows the subject.
