A picture in the waiting room is looked at longer than one at reception, from middle distance and often in a tense minute. In the meeting room it hangs in view for hours. These pages are arranged by room, because the decision usually follows the room and not the motif

Office

From about 100 × 80 cm, seen from three to six metres.

Large formats carry over distance, small works need closeness. For single offices much smaller formats are right

Doctor's practice

Calm colour areas. Hard contrasts tire the eye.

In the waiting room a picture is looked at longer than almost anywhere else. Abstract landscapes take that well

Hotel

A series in the same technique and the same format.

Lobby, corridor and room make different demands. For a series across several rooms, works can be made to fit

Restaurant

Gold leaf under oil, because of the warm light. Floral motifs suit it

The gilded surfaces pick up candle and spot light and shift over the course of the evening

Law firm

Silver leaf, natural colours, grey and white.

Restrained works. Silver leaf under oil reads cooler and more formal than gold

Reception and meeting room

At reception from 140 cm, readable from five metres.

At reception a picture is seen in passing, in the meeting room for hours. The meeting room takes more detail

Living room

Two thirds of the furniture width, centre of the picture at eye level.

Here the wall above the sofa usually decides. Allow 20 to 30 cm clear of the furniture edge
