Medium format
About 60 to 120 cm, the format for most living rooms.
Medium pictures fit above a sofa, sideboard or bed without filling the wall. It is the size people ask for most.
When medium is enough
For walls up to about 250 cm wide.
Wider than that it looks lost, narrower it feels heavy. Two thirds of the furniture width is a good guide.
Single or in a group
Alone as a focal point, in a pair over a wide piece of furniture.
One medium format carries a wall on its own. A pair needs equal height and a calm gap.
Viewing distance
Two to three metres.
At that distance you read motif and surface at once, without stepping back.
