Diptych
A diptych is one work in two parts and is hung with 5 to 10 cm between them, so that it reads as one.
Two canvases, one painting. The gap between them is part of the work: too small and it looks like a mistake, too large and the pair falls apart.
The right spacing
5 to 10 cm, up to 15 cm with large formats.
The gap scales with the size of the painting, but more slowly than the width.

Both parts at the same height
The centre of the group sits at 145 cm.
Measure across both parts together, not each one separately.
Why not separately
The parts refer to one another.
With a charcoal drawing next to a gold panel, the contrast is the work. Separately, half of it is left over.

In short
Two parts, 5 to 10 cm apart, the group centre at 145 cm.
Three diptychs are in the catalogue.
