ROOM
Art for the medical practice
Calm fields of colour between 60 and 120 cm, hung at seated height in the waiting room.
A painting in a waiting room is looked at longer than anywhere else in a practice, from middle distance and often in a tense minute. That shifts the decision away from the subject and towards the effect of the surface.
Waiting room
One painting per sightline, with a matt surface.
Anyone sitting looks at the same wall for ten minutes. Charcoal and colour field hold up to that, because they do not change over the day. Gilded surfaces feel restless here.

Treatment room
A small format, visible from lying down.
The direction of view is different from the rest of the practice. A painting high on the wall opposite the couch meets it, one at standard height does not.
Reception
From 100 cm, still readable from five metres.
Here it is seen in passing. A painting with fine-grained structure disappears, a large surface stays.

Which tones
Sage, grey-green, cream and muted blue.
Strong red and hard contrasts raise the tension in a waiting room instead of lowering it.
What to avoid
Figurative subjects and reflections.
Studies of the body are delicate in a practice. Glass over the painting reflects ceiling lights.
In short
A colour field in muted greens and blues, 60 to 120 cm.
Delivery and hanging in the Zurich region and Central Switzerland.
